What type of data are used to carry out the genetic risk estimation?
To conduct the genetic risk study, genetic loci that have been associated with the development of a condition or complex trait by different scientific projects using a methodology called GWAS are used.
The loci are fixed positions in the DNA that determine the position of a gene or genetic sequence. In other words, the variants present in these loci, which are known to impact the development of the condition or trait, are used.
By knowing whether these variants are protective or increase the risk of developing a condition or trait, we use different methods to estimate the result of their combination and generate the genetic risk results.
