FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS

WE ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS

Do I have a paternal haplogroup?

Yes, although it depends on whether you are male or female from birth, it will be reflected in your DNA or not.

If you are male, your genetic material contains the Y chromosome (from your father), which is the chromosome that carries the trace of your paternal lineage. Therefore, your test will show the paternal haplogroup to which you belong.

If you are a woman by birth, you will not have the Y chromosome in your genetic information, so the paternal lineage will not be reflected in your DNA. But you can still know it through a DNA study of a male member of your family (father, brother, grandfather,…). However, children carry their father’s paternal haplogroup, so you cannot discover yours from them.

However, keep in mind that when a male in your family undergoes the genetic test, even though you share the same paternal haplogroup, it will still not appear in your results. This is because we obtain that information from his analysis and we can’t share it in third-party results.
