FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS

RESOLVE YOUR QUESTIONS

Regardless of my sex, can I know my paternal haplogroup?

Yes, although a different protocol must be followed depending on the sex of the person.

If you are male, your genetic material contains the Y chromosome (from your father), which is the chromosome that carries the trace of your paternal lineage. Therefore, your test will show the paternal haplogroup to which you belong.

If you are a woman by birth, you will not have the Y chromosome in your genetic information, so the paternal lineage will not be reflected in your DNA. But you can still know it through a DNA study of a male member of your family (father, brother, grandfather,…).
