What genetic information is used to determine my paternal haplogroup?
The genetic information of the Y chromosome is analyzed.
This sex chromosome is responsible for determining sex during the embryo formation process by activating the SRY gene, which will trigger a series of characteristic factors in males, such as the development of testicles during embryogenesis, among others.
In the human species, only males have the Y chromosome in their genome. Because of this, this genetic information has been transmitted exclusively from fathers to sons, allowing an absolute tracking of their history for thousands of years. A series of mutations and markers that cannot be found in females are studied.
