Why is my ancestry different from that given to me by other companies?
Our ancestry study is based on the analysis of thousands of markers known as SNPs that are distributed throughout the genome and whose information is conserved in the different study populations. The database we use has been generated from public databases of human variability: 1000 Genomes Project and the Human Genetic Diversity Project. In general, we study certain patterns of your genetic variation and compare them with data from people of known ethnic/geographic origin to infer your ancestry.
Please note that when comparing your ancestry or ethnicity results from different companies may be different as the methodology, reference samples in the population databases (also the populations themselves) and the DNA markers analyzed will be different.
