FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS

WE ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS

How do I properly collect my saliva sample (DNA kit with tube for saliva)?

The instructions for the correct collection of saliva in the DNA kit with tube for saliva are reflected inside the DNA kit that arrives at your home so that you do not have any questions at the time of collection.

Before the saliva DNA test

As it is a genetic test, there is no need to fast prior to taking the sample. However, it is recommended that you avoid eating, drinking, smoking, chewing gum, or brushing your teeth for 30 minutes before collecting the saliva sample.

There are no issues with taking a saliva DNA test while pregnant or taking medication. However, it is important to note that the DNA extracted from saliva is derived from both the cells of the mouth epithelium and the white blood cells present in it. As white blood cells can make up to 70% of the total number of cells processed, it is recommended that those individuals with a decreased level of white blood cells (due to illness, chemotherapy, etc.) wait until their levels normalize before taking the test to ensure a sufficient quantity and quality of DNA for analysis.

Caution: Do not ingest the solution. If it comes into contact with your eyes or skin, rinse thoroughly with water. Keep out of reach of children.

The procedure is very simple:

During the saliva DNA test

Step 1: Spit into the funnel until the volume of saliva (excluding bubbles) reaches 2 ml.

Step 2: Hold the tube upright and close the cap to allow the preservative solution to mix with your saliva. IMPORTANT: Remove the funnel and locate the red cap before proceeding to the next step.

Step 3: Close the collection tube with the cap and ensure it is sealed tightly so that the sample does not experience any issues during transport.

Step 4: Shake the tube up and down 5 times to mix the saliva and preservative solution. Discard the used funnel.

Step 5: Store the tube containing your saliva sample in the clear plastic blister.

Step 6: Place the plastic blister inside the cardboard box and the cardboard box inside the bag. After registration, we will provide you with a return label if it is not already attached to the bag.

Duo / Family  DNA Kit: Insert the plastic blisters inside the plastic bag. After registration we will provide you with the prepaid return label if it is not already attached to the bag. You can discard the cardboard box, it is not necessary to send it back. The clear plastics blisters will protect the samples until they reach the laboratory.

Preservation of the saliva DNA test

It is not necessary, although it is recommended, to keep the sample cold, the preservative solution in the tube allows optimum conservation at room temperature (15-30ºC) for 12 months after taking the sample.
