How is the saliva sample collected (genetic test with drying bag)?
The instructions for correctly collecting saliva for genetic analyses are included inside the genetic kit that arrives at your home, so you have no doubts when collecting the sample.
Before performing the genetic test
- You should not eat, drink, chew gum, or brush your teeth during the 60 minutes prior to taking the sample.
- To stimulate saliva production, you can massage your cheeks.
- The tip of the swab should not touch any surface before taking the sample.
During the genetic test
Step 1: Open the package at the end.
Step 2: Remove the swab from the package, being careful not to touch the white tip of the swab with your fingers.
Step 3: Insert the swab into your mouth and rub it firmly against the inside of your cheek or under your upper or lower lip. Rub for at least one minute, and for a minimum of 20 seconds.
Step 4: Store the swab in the drying bag. Insert the white tip first without touching any surface so that it stays in the drying area.
Step 5: Fold the drying bag along the crease, with the transparent side facing inward. Use the provided white barcode label to seal it.
Step 6: If you have a smaller sized envelope, insert the swab along with the drying bag into the smaller sized envelope. If you have a box, insert the swab along with the drying bag into the box.
Step 7:If you have a smaller size envelope, insert the smaller size envelope into the clear bag. Then click the “Next” button to register your kit. You will receive by email the shipping label to send us the sample at no cost. Print the label and place it between the smaller size envelope and the clear bag, making sure that the label data is visible from the outside. Then take the clear bag with the envelope to the collection point, indicating that you are sending a letter.
If you have a box, insert the envelope with the swab inside the box and then place the box inside the mailing bag. Then click the “Next” button to register your kit. You will receive by email the shipping label that will allow you to send us the sample for free. Print the label, attach it to the outside of the shipping bag and take the bag to the indicated pick-up point.
It is important to note that you should not use an extra cardboard envelope or an extra box for shipping.
Duo/Family Genetic Analysis: The first 6 steps are performed in the same way as in the individual process. In step 7, the drying bags are stored together in the same envelope or box, depending on what you have. A separate envelope or box is not used for each drying bag. Once this storage is done, the rest of the process is the same as in step 7.
Storage of the genetic test with saliva
It has been confirmed in the laboratory that the sample can withstand high temperature (40ºC) and humidity (60%) conditions for at least 3 months after sample collection. We recommend not subjecting the sample to abnormal conditions.
