How far back does the ancestry section go?
The tellmeGen DNA test, like other genetic tests available on the market, does not analyse the ancestry of previous generations and does not allow you to estimate when a specific part of your ancestry was integrated into your family tree.
Current ancestry DNA tests, including tellmeGen, determine your ancestry by analysing your DNA in numerous small segments. Each segment is then compared to reference populations representing various countries and ethnicities. These reference populations are made up of individuals whose DNA is clearly linked to these countries in the last three generations of their family tree, reflecting the contemporary genetic make-up of these populations.
For example, if you receive a percentage linked to Italy, it means that your genetic make-up shares similarities with the genetic profile found in this region today, but does not directly imply that your ancestors come from that country.
