How do I properly collect my saliva sample (for adults kits)?
The instructions for the correct collection of saliva in the adult kits are reflected inside the DNA kit that arrives at your home so that you do not have any questions at the time of collection. The procedure is very simple:
Before the saliva DNA test
As it is a genetic test, it is not necessary to perform it on an empty stomach. However, you should not eat, drink, smoke, chew gum or brush your teeth in the 30 minutes prior to taking the sample..
There is no problem performing this DNA test with saliva if you are pregnant or taking medication. However, the DNA we extract from saliva is obtained from both the cells of the mouth epithelium and the white blood cells present in it. Since white blood cells can represent up to 70% of the total number of cells processed, it is recommended that those people who have a decrease in the levels of white blood cells (due to disease, chemotherapeutic drugs…), wait until their level of white blood cells is normalised before performing the test, in order to ensure a good quantity and quality of the DNA to be analysed.
Caution: Do not ingest. If the solution comes into contact with the eyes or skin, wash with plenty of water. Keep out of the reach of children.
During the saliva DNA test
Step 1: Spit into the funnel until the amount of saliva (excluding bubbles) reaches 2 ml.
Step 2: Hold the tube upright and close the cap to allow the preservative solution to pass into the tube and mix with your saliva. IMPORTANT: Unscrew the funnel and locate the red cap before proceeding to the next point.
Step 3: Close the collection tube with the cap. Make sure it is hermetically sealed so that the sample does not suffer problems during transport.
Step 4: Shake the tube up and down 5 times to mix the saliva and preservative solution. Discard the used funnel.
Step 5: Store the tube containing your saliva sample in the clear plastic blister.
Step 6: Insert the plastic blister inside the cardboard box and the cardboard box inside the bag. After registration we will provide you with the return label if it is not already attached to the bag.
Preservation of the saliva DNA test
It is not necessary to keep the sample cold, the preservative liquid in the tube allows optimum conservation at room temperature (15-30ºC) for 12 months after taking the sample.
