How to properly collect the sample from children and babies?
The instructions for the correct collection of saliva in the DNA testing for children and babies are reflected inside the DNA kit that arrives at your home so that you do not have any questions at the time of collection.
Before performing the genetic test for children and babies
- Do not eat, drink, chew gum or brush your teeth for 30 minutes before taking the sample.
- To stimulate the production of saliva, the cheeks can be massaged.
- The end of the swab should not touch any surface before the sample is taken.
During the DNA testing for children and babies
Step 1: Remove one of the swabs from its wrapper, being careful not to touch the tip with your fingers. Discard the wrapper. Insert the tip of the swab inside his/her mouth and rub the inside of his/her cheeks with it to obtain as much saliva as possible.
Step 2: Repeat the same process with the other swab.
Step 3: Keep the collecting tubes in an upright position and unscrew the cap.
Step 4: Insert the tip of one of the swabs into the tube and break the swab into two pieces using the notch near the end. The end containing the saliva sample should remain inside the tube. Then close the tube with the cap.
Step 5: Repeat the same process with the other swab.
Step 6: To mix the swab with the preservative solution, shake the tubes by inverting them about 15 times.
Step 7: Place the collection tubes containing the saliva samples in the zip bag and then in the box.
Preserve the genetic test with saliva
It is not necessary to keep the sample cold, the preservative solution in the tube allows optimum conservation at room temperature (15-30ºC) for 12 months after taking the sample.
